Cute Gnome Character Sculpture
This cute two-sided and visually attractive sculpture was made using both transparent and non transparent colored glass. Light shining through the glass gives the sculpture a luminous quality. This item measures 6” wide x 10.5” high x 3.5” deep.
The gnome shape was made using two layers of clear and transparent grooved glass. The clear glass was cut into the head shape so that when put together the grooves would be at different angles to one another creating a moire pattern. Thin transparent colored glass stringers were then placed into the grooves of each piece. This composite was then fired in the kiln to melt the two sections together. The hair pieces were then cut, positioned as shown and fired in the kiln together with the head shape. Each piece of the facial characteristics were kiln fired separately and then attached to he head shape. The base was fired in a two step process.
