Muellerglass fused glass creations are the products of Pearl and Wolfgang Mueller. At the age of 9 Wolfgang and the Mueller family emigrated from Germany as refugees of World War II and arrived at Ellis Island, NY in December of 1948. At age 12 Wolfgang began his future career working at his father’s graphic design studio in New York City, NY. After his graduation from high school Wolfgang began his professional career working as a graphic designer for a small printing establishment. While employed at various corporations, both domestic and international he continued his art education at a number of schools including The Famous Artists School (correspondence course), Penn State University, The Philadelphia Museum School of Art, and Philadelphia College of the Arts. After resigning his position as art director of SmithKline & French Pharmaceuticals international division he and a partner started the design firm of Mueller & Wister, Inc. As the firm grew it morphed into a marketing communications agency. During its 35+ years of operation the firm was the recipient of numerous national and international awards for graphics and marketing communications excellence.
Once the Mueller children were grown, Pearl joined Mueller & Wister, Inc. as their office manager. During her time with the firm Pearl advanced her art education by attending art classes at the Montgomery County College and a number of private tutorial sessions.
Upon retirement both Pearl and Wolfgang were introduced to the art of glass fusion and immediately became intrigued with the richness, depth and luminescence of layered glass. We are intrigued with the malleable molten material and the way it can be shaped into a rigid and visually exciting work of art. Its beauty and versatility surprises us but also challenges us with its complex physical properties. All of our creations are one-of-a-kind works of art that express our individuality.
